Khalilzad becoming increasingly concerned about Pakistan

Former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, expressed his concern about Pakistan, adding that the Pakistani government appears to have decided to set up Imran Khan as enemy No 1 of the State which will lead to deepening Pakistan’s triple crises: political, economic, and security.

“There are indications that Pakistan’s parliament, which is controlled by the governing coalition, might well ask the Supreme Court to disqualify Imran Khan from running for election and even prohibit PTI in the next few days,” he tweeted.

According to Khalilzad the IMF support remains doubtful. If the steps mentioned above take place, international support for Pakistan will decline further. Political polarization and violence will likely increase.

The news comes as after Taliban’s domination in Afghanistan, the rate of attacks has increased in Pakistan unprecedentedly, and the country is facing economic difficulty, too.

Earlier Khalilzad called the Pakistan’s police measure to arrest Imran Khan ” wrong”, and added that election must be held to get out of the crisis there.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, had said that did not need unsolicited advice from anyone on how to cope with the challenges it faced.
