At least eight persons, including Atif Munsif Khan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) District Chairman, were killed when unknown shooters fired rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) at their vehicle near Havelian, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday.
According to the police officials, Atif Munsif was on his way home, offering condolence (fateha) in a nearby village, when some unidentified gunmen started shooting at his car. The attacker also fired a rocket launcher, after which the vehicle caught fire.
Atif, four security guards, and three other workers were killed in the attack, police said.
The incident appeared to be connected to a long-standing animosity, according to police officials.
Meanwhile, the crime scene had been cordoned off by police to investigate the crime, officials said.
In addition, a similar incident occurred at a wedding party in Baluchistan’s Nasirabad district, leaving four people dead and 12 injured.
The injured people were transported to the district hospital in Gandawah, and the condition of four injured people was critical and shifted to Quetta.
Similarly, seven individuals were shot and killed yesterday in Balochistan province, including a tribal leader and his two brothers, according to police officials.
Official said that the reason behind the attack is still unknown, and the police have started an investigation.
The security situation in Pakistan has deteriorated due to the increase in violated activities by militant groups. In addition, the country is severely suffering from a financial deficit, waiting for an IMF bailout.
