The World is Moving Towards a Full-Scale War: UN Secretary-General
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned of the consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and said that the world is moving towards a full-scale war with open eyes.
Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations on Monday said on Twitter that Russian aggression has caused massive hardships to the people of Ukraine.
Mr. Guterres has also warned of the consequences of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has substantially affected the lives of Ukrainians, with possible ramifications on global levels in the future.
UN Secretary-General has said, “we need peace, and I am afraid that the world is not dreaming of entering a large-scale war, instead, seeing the fragile conditions with open eyes.”
Russia started its so-called ‘Special Military Operation’ on Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Since then, millions of Ukrainians have fled the war to many European countries, and thousands of lives from both sides have been lost to the ongoing conflict.
Although Russia and Ukraine are the two warring parties, several other world powers including the US and NATO member states are engaged in the conflict and continuously provide military supplies to the Ukraine forces.
Considering the status quo, the ramifications of the Ukraine conflict could be severe not only to the two neighboring countries (Russia, and Ukraine) but to the entire world in the long term.
Mr. Guterres’ remarks come as the United States and German have recently dispatched sophisticated tanks including ‘M1 Abrams and Leopard 2′ to Ukraine aimed at reinforcing Ukraine forces’ strength on the battleground.
Meanwhile, other NATO member states have pledged to provide Ukraine with ammunition and military equipment in the fight against Russian invasion. The recent military support of Ukraine does not warranty any solution to the ongoing conflict, however, it deescalates the situation and fuels more fire to war.
