The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, urged the Taliban to end all “discriminatory laws and practices” that hinder access to education, as the International Day of Education has arrived.
“I call on the Taliban to reverse the outrageous and self-defeating ban on access to secondary and higher education for girls & women in Afghanistan,” Guterres tweeted.
UNESCO has dedicated the International Day of Education on 24 January 2023 to women and girls in Afghanistan.
The Taliban did not allow girls above grade sixth to enter school after their takeover, and recently they suspended the girls higher education and women’s work for NGOs.
