UNHCR, AKDN Ready to Provide Loans to IDPs

KABUL (BNA) The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Aga Khan Development Network Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding today, Wednesday, based on micro loans will be provided to internally displaced persons in Afghanistan.

Based on this method, the details of which were made public by UNHCR, the internally displaced persons in the host provinces can receive interest-free loans from 25,000 to 300,000 afghanis.

The joint UNHCR and AKDN project will reportedly target small businesses, particularly women-run enterprises, striving to help shift returnees into productive economic activities, strengthening Afghanistan’s host communities.

The initiative is currently applicable only in Balkh, Bamyan, Herat, Kabul and Nangarhar unless there is a commitment to expand it in the future.

34 million Afghani will be provided to 500 internally displaced persons through this initiative.
