Some of the former Afghan Special Forces are fighting alongside Ukrainian nationalists: Kabulov

Russian special presidential envoy for Afghansitan, Zamir Kabulov, told Sputnik that some of the former Afghan Special Forces are fighting alongside Ukrainian nationalists.

Sputnik quoted Mr. Kabulov that Former Afghan Special Forces fighters have fought on Kiev’s side in Ukraine.

“These special forces, some of them join Islamic State [ISIS] and fight in Iraq and Syria. It is very predictable, in my opinion. We have already discussed that this is a repeat of the Iraq scenario, which resulted in the IS emergence. And the other part of these former special forces apparently were promised money as mercenaries because they need to make a living, so they join the Ukrainian Nazis. But this does not depend on the Taliban in any way,” Kabulov said.

He also claimed that there is the possibility that the Afghan helicopters which are in neighboring countries are going to reach Ukraine, and Russia does not want that.

“It is important for us that those helicopters and planes that ended up on the territory of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, when Afghan military leaders and servicemen fled and overtook several dozen helicopters and planes, do not get to Ukraine: about 60 in Tajikistan and about 40-50 in Uzbekistan,” Kabulov said.

Taliban have repeatedly emphasized and even warned Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to return the helicopters.

He cited a Kyrgyz delegate as saying at a recent Afghanistan conference in Uzbekistan that approximately 110,000 former Afghan Special Forces had fled the country and were awaiting entry into the United States.

The Taliban have promised not to send militants or terrorists to Ukraine, according to the Russian diplomat.
