Will there be any cure for cancer?
Researchers in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) in New York City developing a drug could take a step up towards treatment of cancer.
The drug is called‘Dostarlimab’ and it could destroy all cancer cells in patients who suffer rectal cancer.
In this trial 14 patients had participated that suffered rectal cancer, and received a dose of ‘Dostarlimab’ every three weeks for six months. All 14 participants experienced complete remission after six months without experiencing any side effect, and there were not signs of cancer in their bodies, and did not need chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
One of the researchers called it a groundbreaking success adding that it is the first time in the history that all participants in a trial recover from cancer.
But he emphasized that further research is required.
Cancer is a disease which is resulted of alteration in genes in body in which some of the body’s cells grow uncontrollably and spread to other parts of the body and form benign and malignant tumors.
Cancer is one of the prevalent diseases around the world which has more than 200 types, the famous ones are Lung cancer, Colorectal cancer (CRC), Breast cancer, and Prostate cancer, that take thousands of lives annually.
The treatment of cancer depends on its type and level. Nowadays, doctors utilize surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and hormone therapy.
