Alizai says he stopped Hamid Karzai from returning to office
Several months after the collapse of former government and the Taliban’s takeover, former chief of staff of the Afghan National Army said that he stopped former president, Hamid Karzai, from returning to office as Taliban advanced on Kabul.
Mr. Alizai in an interview with The War Zone said that after Ghani had fled the country and former president, Hamid Karzai, called former defense minister, Bismillah Khan Mohammadi, and somehow wanted him to take him to the palace [ARG- presidential palace].
“I thought President Hamid Karzai is not anymore a good fit for the Afghan leadership, because he had his chance from 2001 to 2014,” said Alizai.
Alizai in other part of his remarks referring to restart of talks with Taliban said, if talks do not have a result, another civil war will start.
It is mentionable that Alizai was one of the former Generals that in recent days of former government, Ashraf Ghani appointed him as chief of staff.
