Iranian media reported that at least 17 people killed and 50 others injured as a result of train derailment in Mashhad- Yazd route. Five people are missing, and the injured are in critical condition according to reports.
The main cause of the accident is not clear yet, but the deputy head of Iran’s state-owned railways, Mir Hassan Moussavi, said that the train hit an excavator.
The media reported that train had 7 wagons and was carrying 348 passengers.
It seems the death toll to be high considering the wagons and the number of passengers.
