The German Foreign Minister paid an official visit to Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, to discuss the increasing of pressure on the Taliban and the need to resume the evacuation of vulnerable individuals from Afghanistan.
The German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday, 7th June, for a two-day visit, according to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.
She discussed Afghanistan and their connections with Afghanistan with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari during her visit.
In addition, the German official will meet with Afghan and Pakistani activists and civil society representatives.
According to German media, Baerbock is putting pressure on the Taliban to respect, protect human rights, which has been the major topic of discussion between the German and Pakistani foreign ministries.
On her first visit to Pakistan, Germany’s senior diplomat said, “The international community must stand united and tell the Taliban loud and clear: You are moving in the wrong direction.”
According to Pakistan’s foreign minister, there was a detailed discussion about the “grave humanitarian situation” that 40 million Afghans are suffering.
According to reports, another key area discussed at the meetings was the suspension of the evacuation process, and Germany is working to put further pressure on the Taliban to evacuate its allies and vulnerable individuals from Afghanistan.
Annalena Baerbrock had earlier described Pakistan as a “key partner” in the evacuation and rescue of civilians fleeing Taliban rule.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry has stated that Germany is one of Pakistan’s helpful and close partners, with which it engages closely in a variety of disciplines.
Baerbock will also meet Afghan refugees in Islamabad who are planning to move to Germany.
