Human Rights Activists on Social Medias Launch a Campaign Against Mandatory Hijab

A number of human rights activists and social media users inside and outside the country have launched and joined a campaign under the slogan of “free her face” against the Taliban’s recent decision on the compulsory hijab of female presenters and reporters.

“Free her face” is a campaign that is launched among social media users today (Monday, May 23).

Heather Barr, Women’s Rights Division at Human Rights Watch, is among those who have joined this campaign. She has posted a picture of a male presenter wearing a mask in protest of the Taliban order, saying now it would be clear whether “the diplomats who work in Afghanistan join this campaign or not”.

On Saturday, May 21, 2022, the Taliban ordered female TV anchors to cover their faces with masks while presenting a program.
