Taliban Bans Women From Playing Sports

The Taliban prevented some women athletes from entering stadiums in Kabul.
A female athlete, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Hasht-e Subh that a group of Taliban forces visited the women’s sports center in the Karta-e Parwan neighborhood of Kabul on Saturday and closed the gates of the center. “Athletes have been told you were made for home,” she says.
According to her, the Taliban numbered as many as five and warned the stadium guard that “he would be questioned and interrogated” if the stadium reopened. Although the Taliban stated at the beginning of their rule in Afghanistan that they were not opposed to the presence of women in society, they have imposed restrictions on girls’ education, segregated classrooms, banned women from working, imposed the head-to-toe hijab, and removed women from the media.
These restrictions on women have provoked international reactions, but so far, the Taliban has shown no flexibility.
