Food Insecurity Crisis in Afghanistan Targets Women and Children

Kabul – Following reports of economic crisis and poverty in Afghanistan, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has deeply raised concerns on matters of food insecurity and malnutrition crises in the country, adding the people of Afghanistan struggle with an unprecedented crisis of food insecurity and malnutrition. Specifically, women and children have been the most vulnerable and suffered the crisis. UNHCR has reported.

In addition, the UN High Commissioner has further stated that many children in Afghanistan are street workers or beggars for the sack of supporting their families. These children either have lost their breadwinners or are out of jobs due to the recent political failures in the country.

With the rise of the Taliban regime, the level of poverty in Afghanistan has increased sharply and children and women have been paying the price with their basics rights and lives.

Based on another report previously published by UNICEF, “More than one million children are at risk of dying and starving in case immediate actions are not taken.”
