Kabul – The authorities of Balkh Public Health Department have warned that if the financial problem of 100 Bed Drug Treatment Center for Male in this province is not addressed, the treatment center will no longer be able to accept patients.
Najibullah Tawana, Acting Head of Public Health Department in Balkh, told Hasht-e Subh that there are more than 80,000 drug addicts in this province, but the funding agency has suspended financial cooperation with the hospital. He has added that there is no donor to assist the hospital.
According to Najibullah, a foreign organization previously was funding five addiction treatment centers in Balkh province. But due to the lack of funding sources, the center cannot continue providing service but suspend operations.
He has requested the special attention of the donor community to this matter.
In the past, each round of treatment for addicts in the province’s medical centers was applied during the course of three to six months, but now each course of treatment is being applied in 21 days, according to Balkh health authorities.
