UN Human Rights Council Appoints a Special Rapporteur to Oversee and Document the Violation of Human Rights in Afghanistan

Kabul – On Friday, April 1, the UN Human Rights Council appointed Richard Bennett as the Special Rapporteur of this organization for Afghanistan to oversee and document the violation of human rights by the rebels.

Mr. Bennett has confirmed his appointment and said in a tweet: “I am committed to strengthening the voices of Afghan women, men, and children.”

Meanwhile, Rina Amiri, US Representative for Afghan Women, has welcomed the appointment of Mr. Bennett to Afghanistan and has added that a Special Rapporteur was needed to document the human rights situation in Afghanistan.

Ms. Amiri has further emphasized that in order to support Richard Bennett with his new challenging role, he needs the full cooperation of the people of Afghanistan and international community organizations on the ground.

Respect for Human Rights is one of the very major criteria of the International Community for recognizing Taliban as a legitimate government. However, they have failed to remain committed to respecting human rights in Afghanistan.

Access to education is the basic right of every human and no religion is against this value, in the contrary, Taliban have been continuously against this value. During the past 20 years of their fights, they destroyed and exploded many schools and killed innocent students. As soon as they overthrew the government in August, they closed all the education doors. But gradually reopened the doors for boys but not for girls.
