Worshippers in a mosque in Canada subdue an attacker and delivered to police

Worshippers in a mosque in Toronto, Canada apprehended a man who was carrying a hatchet and wanted to attack on them.

According to reports Mohammad Moiz Omar, 24, yesterday at dawn prayer while holding a hatchet and bear spray entered the Dar Al-Tawheed Islamic Centre in a suburb of Toronto, and attacked on worshippers.

The attacker used the spray, but before using his hatchet the worshippers tackled him to the ground and apprehended him until the police showed up.

Bear spray is used to deter aggressive or charging bear. When sprayed into the face of a person or bear, capsaicin inflames the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose and lungs, causes temporary loss of sight, nasal congestion. According to police some worshippers received minor injuries because of spray.

Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau, in a tweet denounced the attack and called it “incredibly disturbing.”

“I strongly condemn this violence – which has no place in Canada – and I’m keeping the community in my thoughts today. I also want to applaud the courage of those who were there this morning,” Justin Trudeau said.

Canadian media outlets added that the aim of the attack is not clear yet.

In 2017, six worshippers were shot dead after a gunman opened fire on worshippers at a mosque in Quebec.
