KABUL (BNA) Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Administrative Deputy Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, met today with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi and his accompanying delegation at the presidential palace.
The meeting acompanied by Ramiz Al-Akbarov, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan, and Carlin Weberburn, Head of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Afghanistan. and an exchange took place, “The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has been working to help Afghan refugees in Pakistan and Iran since 1979 and is continuing to do so,” said Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
“Security in Afghanistan has provided us with a good opportunity to work more closely with the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations, and we are pleased that 176,000 IDPs have returned to their homes in the past few months,” he said.
Filippo Grandi stressed the need to build trust to encourage refugees to return to Afghanistan, saying that 55 districts and five major cities in Afghanistan have been identified for return and reintegration, in addition to humanitarian aid, construction and reconstruction work, We also do.
Meanwhile, Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, appreciating the activities of the commissioner, reminded of the invasion of Afghanistan by the former Soviet Red Army, which was the beginning of emigration from the country, and said: It is a kind of cooperation.
He added: “One of the important factors for the return of refugees to the country is to ensure the security and citizenship rights of all Afghan citizens, which, thank God, has now been provided and the honor, and dignity of our compatriots are protected.”
At the end of the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that not only humanitarian aid is enough for the repatriations, but as well attention should be paid to creating job opportunities for them, and this is possible through the implementation of development projects throughout the country.
