Afghanistan is in dire need of international assistance: Pakistan’s FM

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has expressed concern over Afghanistan’s humanitarian situation and asked for international assistance to the country.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi has announced on his Twitter that he has met with High Commissioner of Human Rights of the United Nations Michelle Bachelet and discussed Afghanistan’s situation along with that in Indian-administered Kashmir.

The Pakistani FM has also insisted that Afghanistan’s frozen reserves must be released and must be returned to the Afghan people.

“Humanitarian assistance should be unconditional and all frozen assets of Afghanistan must be returned to the Afghan people.” Reads a Twitter post of Qureshi.

It comes as the US president Joe Biden allocated half of Afghanistan’s frozen assets in the US banks ($3.5 billion) to the victims of 9/11 triggered national and international anger.

As per the stats of the UN, 97 percent of the Afghan population is under the poverty line whereas over 23 million people are in need of life-saving aid in the country.
