Kabul – A soldier affiliated with the now-former security directorate in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province claims that local government forces have severely tortured him.
He was reportedly abducted and severely tortured by Taliban government forces in Lashkar Gah on Wednesday night.
The former officer says that he has been tortured for serving in the National Security Directorate (NDS) of the now-former regime.
Local government forces have now released him on bail after several days of detention. However, local authorities in Helmand have not officially commented.
Meanwhile, Helmand is not the only province where former soldiers are being tortured contrary to the general amnesty commitments. The persecution occasionally takes place in other provinces as well.
