Nowruz, the Persian New Year Officially Recognized in Washington

Kabul – Many American media outlets have reported that the Washington City Council has approved a proposed resolution to recognize Nowruz (Persian New Year) as a historic event.

The Washington City Council approved the proposed resolution on Tuesday, March 1.

In the resolution, which was adopted unanimously, Nowruz or the first day of the year is mentioned as a symbol of starting over.

According to VOA, Nowruz is proposed in the resolution as an ancient celebration day that has been celebrated for 3,000 years – a day that 300 million people in Afghanistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, and other Central Asian countries celebrate each year.
