US Bans Import of Art and Antiquities from Afghanistan

The United States has banned the import of art and antiquities from Afghanistan for four years.

According to the American media, this emergency measure will be in effect from February 18 to April 28.

The US Department of State has announced that it has authorized the Cultural Property Advisory Committee (CPAC) to prevent the looting and smuggling of archaeological and ethnographic materials.

The State Department has said it has released a list of banned items, according to which no one has the right to export Afghan antiquities to the United States.

Meanwhile, several US archaeologists have reacted to their government’s move, saying the decision could lead to looting and theft of antiquities from Afghanistan.
