Following the international community’s concern over the detention of women protesters in Kabul, the UN Secretary-General has now stated that he is increasingly concerned about the safety of missing women in Afghanistan.
“I am increasingly concerned about the well-being of women activists who have disappeared in Afghanistan,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres tweeted on Thursday.
He added that several women protesters had disappeared in Kabul, stressing that their status had been unknown for weeks.
However, he stressed that Kabul must ensure the safety of the protesters so that they can return to their homes.
In the past three weeks, at least four women protesters and their relatives have been detained in Kabul, and their fate remains unknown.
