Germany Urges Finding Whereabouts of Disappeared Women Activists

Kabul – The German Embassy in Afghanistan, currently based in Qatar, has expressed concern about the detention of women protesters, calling for an investigation into their whereabouts.

The embassy tweeted today Monday that the brave women had been disappeared after protesting and exercising their right to freedom of expression.

Moreover, the embassy tweeted that the arrest of women detainees should be investigated immediately.

Meanwhile, the German Embassy is expressing concern over the unknown situation of the detainees, as Deborah Lyons, the UN Secretary-General’s special representative for Afghanistan, met yesterday with the Deputy Prime Minister of the new government to discuss the disappearance of women protesters.

So far, Amnesty International, the European Union, Rina Amiri, the US special representative for Afghan women, and other human rights organizations around the world have called for the release of women protesters in Afghanistan.
