UN Expresses Concern About the Fate of ‘Disappeared’ Women Activists

Deborah Lyons, UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, met with Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Taliban-led government for Political Affairs.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) tweeted that Ms. Lyons met Taliban officials “to convey deepening concern” about the well-being of ‘disappeared’ women activists.

UNAMA stated that the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister was committed to “seeking the answer to the fate” of ‘disappeared’ women activists.

“World support to Afghanistan is eroded without respect for all Afghan’s rights,” UNAMA added.

The disappearance of some women activists in Kabul has caused great concern for civilians and rights defenders.
