Kabul – Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) owes $33 million for electricity imports from Tajikistan, a Tajik media has reported.
The media quoted the head of the Tajik electricity company as saying, DABS had assured that it would pay its debts later this month.
Moreover, Tajikistan electricity CEO Mahmadumar Asozoda told reporters that Breshna had paid off $2 million of its debts in January and promised to pay the remaining amount later this week.
On the other hand, Asia-Plus quoted Asozoda as saying, the main problem in repaying debts is that Afghan banks can only pay $2 million a week to DABS.
Meanwhile, on December 26, 2021, DABS signed a contract for the import of electricity from Tajikistan to Afghanistan in 2022.
Under the agreement, Tajikistan will export 400 megawatts of electricity to Afghanistan daily from May to September this year.
