Kabul – A resident of Fayzabad in Badakhshan province has brought his two young children up for sale due to poverty and hunger, residents of the province say.
“The poor person is named Najibullah, who is mainly the resident of Pani Tand village in Yaftal district of Badakhshan province,” said Badakhshani residents to Hasht-e Subh.
He said to local media, “We haven’t had bread for days, and my children have been hungry.”
“Now, I have to save the rest of the family by selling my two young children,” said Najibullah.
Moreover, he lives with a mentally ill brother and is forced to sell his children due to poverty and hunger.
Meanwhile, Taliban officials at the Badakhshan Department of Labor and Social Affairs say no one with these characteristics has been referred to the department so far.
According to the officials, they work with such families to provide accommodation for children, financial aid, and basic needs.
Meanwhile, local officials in the province state that these people should be contacted in order to be introduced in writing to the relevant authorities.
Najibullah has auctioned off his children because of hunger while in another case, it was recently reported that a person had died of starvation in the province.
