Kabul – A number of residents staged a protest because of Afghanistan’s frozen assets and economic problems today Tuesday, December 21, by calling on the United States to release the blocked funds of the country.
The protesters criticized the freezing of the country’s reserves, saying when the Afghan people are struggling with economic problems, the US should lift sanctions and release Afghan currency.
Meanwhile, the US has frozen about $9.4 billion in Afghan assets since the takeover.
However, the US Treasury Department has said it will not allow the Taliban access to the money.
On the other hand, the Taliban and several countries, including China, Russia, Iran, and Pakistan, have repeatedly called on the US to release frozen currency in Afghanistan which the US has so far refused.
