Taliban Foreign Ministry chief Amir Khan Muttaqi met Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, the current president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), in Islamabad, the Taliban Foreign Ministry said.
This meeting took place on Saturday, December 18th.
Taliban Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi tweeted on Sunday that the two sides had emphasized unity and solidarity among Muslims. He added that the two sides called the OIC conference a good opportunity for Afghanistan.
Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman is one of Pakistan’s religious scholars who, during the previous government, repeatedly supported suicide and explosive attacks in Afghanistan and issued a fatwa on jihad in the country.
Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has had close ties to the Taliban in the past.
